Bee species found in the state of Georgia
Currently there are 542 species listed in Georgia*
* These numbers are climbing, our current survey has added more than 30 bees to this list!
Abundance for each bee species was based on two years of data. Approximately 2000-3000 bees are collected and examined each year. Abundant bee species would make of 5% or more of a random sample (5+ bees out of a sample of 100 bees), while common bee species make up 1% or more of a random sample. Uncommon bee species are quite a find, since they occur in less than 1% of the sample. Mostly likely you will need to sample or view 100’s of bees to find one of these bees. Rare bee species are really special, they make up only 1 bee in 1000 specimens. You could look all year for one of these rare specimens and not find it. Species with a blank next to them have not yet been collected by the study.
